Digital Video Cameras - Varying Types
There are dozens of styles of video cameras in the market today. The quality varies greatly. Which one is right for you? Do you need to carry a photo camera and a video camera, or is the video option on that Canon sufficient?
In-phone video is the lowest quality you can get. There is usually no zoom function and the storage size is tiny, so videos cannot be blown up to a size much larger than the phone screen. Though they can be great for capturing live action in the heat of the moment (news outlets regularly air phone videos of events before their news crew can arrive at the scene), they are not good for archival video.
In-camera video is a step up from phone video, but nowhere near the quality of digital video recorders. The abilities of camera video depends on the camera you are using. Check the features before you purchase a camera hoping to use the video feature. Some allow you to zoom while shooting the video, others no not. Most have sound, but not all. The quality and size of video also vary from camera to camera. If you are looking to create lasting memories, it’s best to use a digital video recorder.
From camcorders (as low as $100) to high end machines (as high as $2,000), the video market is a sea of choices. Most of the time, a mid- or upper low-end camera is more than enough for shooting home videos. Whether you get flash or SD memory is of no real importance, just make sure that you get a digital camera, as companies are quickly phasing out all other forms of recording.
Editing your home video footage is a breeze with many programs available for your computer. The better camera you have, the better your end product will look. Think about what you really need, though: HD is often not necessary for the type of footage amateurs and hobbyists shoot, though having an easily packed away camera is. Zoom, audio quality and stabilization features should not be skimped on, though manual iris and other “professional” settings are not necessary for most users.
